The Syracuse women's soccer team will face 25th-ranked Louisville (8-1-1, 3-1-0 BIG EAST) for the first time ever on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Cardinals joined the BIG EAST last season and the Orange didn't face them in a cross-divisional game.
The Orange, coming off a 0-0 tie against Dartmouth, has faced five teams for the first time ever this season. Syracuse met new opponents in its first three games of the season, losing to eighth-ranked Virgina, William & Mary, and 23rd-ranked Wake Forest. The Orange's victory this season came in a first-meeting when they bested Portland State at the Illinois Tournament, 1-0. Syracuse 31-23-2 all-time when meeting an opponent for the first time. On Friday, the Orange met Cincinnati for the first time, and tied, 0-0.
The Cardinal’s only loss this season came against top-ranked Notre Dame, 2-0. Louisville is 4-0 at home and 3-0 in overtime games this year. Louisville is fouth in the BIG EAST in goals (21) and points (62). The Cardinals are allowing less than a goal per game and have recorded four shutouts. Senior Jamie Craft is sixth in the BIG EAST in points (16), tied for third in assists (six) and tied for ninth in goals (five). All of those totals are Louisville team-highs. Sophomore goalkeeper Deana Waintraub is third in the conference in save percentage (.889) and fourth in goals against average (0.41). Junior goalkeeper Joanna Haig is ninth in the BIG EAST in goals against average (0.89).
