Ithaca, N.Y. – The Syracuse track and field teams competed at the Upstate Challenge, hosted by Cornell, on Saturday. Both SU squads placed third of five teams despite not competing in many events.
Ithaca, N.Y. – The Syracuse track and field teams competed at the Upstate Challenge, hosted by Cornell, on Saturday. Both SU squads placed third of five teams despite not competing in many events.
Junior Jillian Drouin led the Orange women’s team, placing second in both the high jump and long jump competitions. Drouin qualified for the ECAC Championship in the high jump by recording a height of 1.70m. She posted a BIG EAST-qualifying distance of 5.52m in the long jump.
Other highlights on the women’s side include second-place finishes by Racquel Clarke in the 500m run (1:19.40), Lisa Giacometti in the 3,000m run (10:40.62) and Kyra James in the weight throw (15.85m). Stacie Boyle, Uhonoma Osazuma and Kayla Carter finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the pentathlon.
On the men’s side, senior Dan Pribula once again led the charge for Syracuse. He once again posted an IC4A-qualifying mark in the shot, placing second with a distance of 16.03m. Pribula, who has already earned ECAC Field Athlete of the Week accolades on two occasions, also recorded a seventh-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 14.78m.
Other top finishes include Ben Torvik, who placed second in the 3,000m run (8:46.37), Terry Barresi, who finished second in the heptathlon (3,467 points) and Marcus Vaughn, who placed fourth in the 60m hurdles. Vaughn posted a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 8.23 seconds and just missed qualifying for the IC4A Championship by .01 seconds.
