Orange Ends Fall Season at Dartmouth Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. – The Syracuse tennis team completed the 2007 fall season at the Big Green Invitational hosted by Dartmouth. Second-year head coach Luke Jensen welcomed seven newcomers to the Orange this fall in preparation for the 2008 spring season.
Sophomore Ashley Spicer led the Syracuse singles’ charge with a first-place finish in flight #7. Freshman Emily Mauser and Ally Wickman finished in the top doubles spot in flight #4.
Sophomores Chelsea Jones, Spicer and freshman Simone Kalhorn collected singles victories for the Orange. Jones tallied a 6-1, 6-3 win against Dartmouth’s Catja Carrell while Spicer downed the Big Green’s Ryan Reichel, 7-6, 6-3. Kalhorn bested Dartmouth’s Jesse Adler, 7-6, 6-0.
Jensen’s assorted doubles’ attack yielded several successful outcomes. Spicer and freshman Jacquelynn Tang tallied a 9-7 win against Stony Brook while Tan and veteran Maria Vasilyeva totaled an 8-2 triumph against the Seawolves.
Vasilyeva paired with Jones for an 8-4 win against Dartmouth before Spicer and Tan collected an 8-4 victory against the Big Green. Wickman and Mauser tallied an 8-5 win against Army.
The Orange embarks on a two-month hiatus before beginning the 2008 spring season against BIG EAST foe Cincinnati on Friday, January 25 at 6:00 p.m.
