Cobbina Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Cheryl Cobbina has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Cobbina led the Orange with 63 kills and a 4.50 kills per game average as Syracuse is currently riding a season-best six-match win streak.
Cobbina has led the Orange or shared the team-lead in kills in each of the last 12 matches. Cobbina powered the SU offense in a non-conference sweep against Colgate (3-1) and Cornell (3-1). The senior outside hitter collected a club-best 22 kills and posted a .341 attack percentage against the Red Raiders. Cobbina responded in pairing a team-best 13 kills with 14 digs against the Big Red for her 11th double-double of the season.
With two three-game sweeps against BIG EAST foes West Virginia and Pittsburgh, the Orange ranks in a three-way tie for the conference tournament’s five seed. Cobbina led the Syracuse charge with 14 kills while adding nine digs in head coach Jing Pu’s 400th career coaching victory against the Mountaineers. Cobbina totaled her team-leading 12th double-double of the season after collecting 14 kills and 12 digs against the Panthers.
Cobbina leads the Orange attack with 393 kills and a career-best 4.01 kills per game average. Cobbina ranks fifth and sixth all-time with a 3.43 kills per game average and 1,314 career kills.
Syracuse (18-10, 6-4) continues a four-match BIG EAST road swing on Saturday, November 3 against No. 23 St. John’s at 2:00 p.m.
