PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior midfielder Jen Taormina (Liverpool, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday. Taormina netted a career-high two goals in the women's soccer team's 3-2 victory against DePaul.
Her first goal came at 35:05 and evened the match at 1-1. The play started with a corner kick and Taormina found the ball in front of the net. Her second tally was the game-winning goal and came at 80:19 when she fired a shot from 18 yards out. She is the first SU student-athlete to score two goals in a game since Nicole Spartano had two against South Florida in 2005.
Taormina is first on the team and tied for fourth in the conference with six goals. Her 13 points is also a team best and places her tied for fifth in the BIG EAST. The Orange is a perfect 5-0 in games Taormina has a goal.
The club travels to South Florida Friday for a 6 p.m. game on Oct. 12 and to Marquette for a 1 p.m. match on Oct. 14. SU is tied with South Florida for the final playoff spot in the American Division of the BIG EAST. Both teams have four points.
