MILWAUKEE, WI – Seniors Cheryl Cobbina and Joscie Kaup have earned BIG EAST Second Team honors, the conference announced Thursday night at the annual tournament banquet. The eighth-seeded Orange meets the top seed in the BIG EAST No. 21 Louisville in the conference tournament's opening round on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (ET).

MILWAUKEE, WI – Seniors Cheryl Cobbina and Joscie Kaup have earned BIG EAST Second Team honors, the conference announced Thursday night at the annual tournament banquet. The eighth-seeded Orange meets the top seed in the BIG EAST No. 21 Louisville in the conference tournament's opening round on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (ET).
Cobbina finished the regular season ranked sixth in the BIG EAST with 4.00 kills per game. The outside hitter garnered Player of the Week recognition on Monday, October 29 after leading the Orange to two critical conference three-game sweeps at West Virginia and Pittsburgh. Cobbina has tallied a career-best 460 kills, propelling her into fifth-place all-time with 1,381.
Kaup garners second team honors after ranking third in the BIG EAST with 4.66 digs per game. The defensive specialist became the Orange's all-time leader in career digs on September 1 and received Player of the Week laurels on Monday, September 3. Kaup's 4.46 digs per game clip currently stands as the program's all-time best mark.
St. John's outside hitter Hui Ping Huang was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year while teammate Lena Yee was awarded conference Libero of the Year distinction. Cincinnati rookie Stephanie Niemer was selected the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. First-year Villanova head coach Josh Steinbach earned the conference's Coach of the Year accolade.
Syracuse head coach Jing Pu, in his 13th season with the Orange and 18th overall as a volleyball mentor, was honored for capturing his 400th career coaching victory on October 27 against West Virginia.
Cobbina and Kaup joined several teammates acknowledged for earning BIG EAST Academic All-Star distinction in 2006-07. April Quigley, Emily Kaier, Brittany Kern, Jacki Kliment, Kacie MacTavish, Sarah Morton and Annabelle Pellerin were honored for their scholastic achievements.
The Orange returns to the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since the 2005 season against the Cardinals on Friday. Syracuse fans can follow the match live online through the official conference web site. The six championship contest, which will contain live audio and be produced with three cameras, can be seen for a one-time price of $9.95.
