Syracuse, N.Y. – Freshman forward Donte' Greene has been named the Rivals.com Freshman of the Week Wednesday after two 20-point outings in the Preseason NIT against Ohio State and Washington at Madison Square Garden. The award comes two days after Greene received BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors Monday.
Greene led the Orange with 21 points and added nine rebounds in Syracuse's 79-65 loss to Ohio State in the tournament semifinals.
In the Orange's 91-85 win against Washington in the consolation game, Greene scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed a personal best 10 rebounds, tallying the first double-double of his career. The Baltimore, Md. native was 9-15 from the floor, shooting the ball at an impressive 60.0 percent clip.
Through five contests this season, Greene is averaging 20.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. The 6-11 forward ranks second in the BIG EAST in scoring average and is tied for 11th in rebounds per game. He has scored at least 20 points in the Orange’s last three games.
Greene also garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 19 and was named a BIG EAST Preseason Co-Rookie of the Year with fellow Syracuse freshman Jonny Flynn. His performances at The Garden also earned Greene Preseason NIT All-Tournament Team honors.
