SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University men’s lacrosse team will play 14 games in 2008, seven of which will be against opponents who qualified for last year’s NCAA Tournament. Nine of the 14 contests will be played in the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome.
Highlighting the schedule for the second straight year is a meeting with Virginia in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Classic. The matchup will take place at Baltimore’s M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday, March 1 at 12 p.m. It is the first game of doubleheader that also features Princeton versus Johns Hopkins. The four schools have combined to win every national championship since 1991.
Syracuse’s regular season will officially begin on Sunday, Feb. 17 when Villanova visits the Carrier Dome. It will mark just the second meeting between the two teams and the first since the Orange defeated the Wildcats, 19-8, in the 1991 season starter.
SU rounds out its February slate with a home game against Army on Sunday, Feb. 24.
The Virginia clash kicks off SU’s March slate, and the Orange will host NCAA Tournament qualifier Georgetown the following weekend (March 9). The Orange’s first true road game comes against defending national champion Johns Hopkins on Saturday, March 15 at Homewood Field.
SU hosts Binghamton (March 22) and Loyola (March 29), another 2007 NCAA team, during the year’s third month. In between those dates is the Orange’s first mid-week game, a showdown at Hobart for the Kraus-Simmons Trophy on Tuesday, March 25.
April begins with a home date against Princeton (April 5) before its first only consecutive road contests of the year. The Orange will play at Cornell (April 8) and Rutgers (April 12) in back-to-back outings. The team returns for a pair of home games against Albany (April 19) and Massachusetts (April 26) before wrapping up the regular season at Colgate on Saturday, May 3.
In addition to the Orange’s 14 regular-season dates, SU will host LeMoyne and Hofstra in a three-way scrimmage at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, Feb. 2.
