SYRACUSE – The Syracuse volleyball team completes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday, November 6 against in-state rival Siena at 7:00 p.m. The Orange will look to snap a two-match skid before hosting Villanova (11/9) and Seton Hall (11/11) in the final weekend of BIG EAST competition.
SYRACUSE – The Syracuse volleyball team completes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Tuesday, November 6 against in-state rival Siena at 7:00 p.m. The Orange will look to snap a two-match skid before hosting Villanova (11/9) and Seton Hall (11/11) in the final weekend of BIG EAST competition.
Orange Rewind
Syracuse will look to snap a two-match skid against the Saints following back-to-back 3-0 BIG EAST losses against No. 22 St. John’s and Connecticut. Senior Cheryl Cobbina led the Orange offense with both outings in recording 12 and 13 kills against the Red Storm and Huskies, respectively. Redshirt-junior April Quigley combined to total 73 assists in two matches.
Siena (20-6, 15-1)
The Saints arrive in Syracuse, N.Y. as winners in 20 of their last 23 outings, including three straight. From September 1 to October 20, Siena collected 17 consecutive wins.
Nadiege Honore leads all Saints with a team-best 391 kills and a 4.25 kills per game average. April London has guided the Siena attack to the tune of a club-leading 1,195 assists and 12.71 assists per outing. Kathi Kobayashi has paced the Saints back-line with a club-high 344 digs and a 3.66 digs per game average. Burgandy McCurty has tallied a team-leading 108 total blocks.
In Siena’s last win, a three-game sweep of Niagara, Aubrey Bobo’s team-high 14 kills led four Saints in double-figures. Honore collected 12 kills while Kelly Hummel and McCurty have added 11. London guided the Saints’ offense with a team-high 41 helpers. Sara Mancini’s 17 digs supported the Saints’ defensive efforts.
All-Time Against Siena
In a series that dates back to 1979, the Orange owns a 17-1 all-time advantage against Siena, including a 16-match win streak that last through the 2004 campaign. Siena’s lone victory, a five-game victory, came in the 2005 season.
Last Time Out Against the Saints
Cheryl Cobbina tallied 15 kills and Emily Kaier contributed 12 as the Orange swept Siena on day one of the Big Orange Tournament on September 1, 2006. April Quigley totaled a team-high 36 assists as seven SU student-athletes collected at least one kill. Joscie Kaup led the Syracuse defense with 26 digs while Sarah Morton recorded six total blocks.
Next In Line
Syracuse’s postseason hopes will come down to the final weekend of BIG EAST play. The Orange, currently, a ½ match behind Pittsburgh and one match behind Connecticut, Notre Dame and USF for the eighth and final playoff spot, hosts Villanova on Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. and Seton Hall on Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m.
