PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior defender Karrah Benson and senior midfielder Jen Taormina were honored by the BIG EAST for their stellar performances on the field for the women's soccer team. Benson was named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team and Taormina earned All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention accolades.
Benson anchored a defense that only allowed one goal or less in 12 games and posted six shutouts. The Germantown, Md., native netted four goals on the season, including one game-winner. All of her tallies came during penalty kicks, making her the only Orange in school history to score four penalty kick goals in a career.
Taormina, a Liverpool, N.Y., native, had one of the best senior year performances all-time by an Orange student-athlete. She recorded a team-high six goals and 14 points. Her goal total was fourth-best in SU history among seniors. She was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after netting two goals in a 3-2 victory against DePaul (Oct. 7). The club benefited from her scoring touch by winning all five games in which she scored.
The tandem is the first to be recognized by the conference since Anne-Marie Lapalme and Molly McManus were named to the second team and the rookie team, respectively, in 2003.
