SYRACUSE
, N.Y. – Freshman point guard Jonny Flynn has totaled 15 points and added three assists as Syracuse leads Cornell 49-30 at halftime in the Carrier Dome. The rookie court general has shot 6-for-8 from the field overall and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc.
The Orange jumped out to a 14-point advantage at 32-18 following an 18-6 run out of the 16 minute media timeout. Sophomore forward Paul Harris’ one-hand dunk highlighted the Syracuse spurt. With the ball on the low block, Harris faced up his defender, shook to the middle and beat his defender baseline before finishing the flush on top of 7-0 Cornell center Jeff Foote.
Minutes later, Syracuse pushed its lead to 37-20 following two electric sequences from Flynn. Freshman forward Donte’ Greene chased down a long outlet pass before finding Flynn on the other end of a lob for a two-hand slam. The next trip down the floor, Flynn sized up his defender before draining a trifecta.
The Orange’s largest lead of the first half was 20 points and came after junior Kristof Onegnaet converted an old-fashion three-point play at the 5:57 mark. Ongenaet matched a career high with seven points in the first 20 minutes.
