Hanover, N.H. – The 15th-ranked Orange lost a hard-fought battle to host sixth-ranked Dartmouth, 11-10. Freshman Christina Dove (Bel Air, Md.) led Syracuse with three goals in her first collegiate game.

Sophomore Katie Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) recorded a team-best four points on two goals and two assists. Senior Ashley Pike (Watertown, N.Y.) and freshman Halley Quillinan (Glenmont, N.Y.) each scored two goals for the Orange. Sophomore Amber Pardee-Hill (Lewiston, N.Y.) made 10 saves in her first game in the cage.
Dartmouth opened the scoring 1:29 into the contest. Pike responded with SU’s first goal of the 2007 season just 32 seconds later to tie the game. Quillinan scored 56 seconds following Pike’s goal to give Syracuse its first advantage, 2-1. The teams continued to trade goals the rest of the half with neither team gaining more than a one-goal advantage until Dartmouth grabbed a 6-4 advantage with 15:05 left in the half. With the Big Green leading, 7-5, Dove scored the final two goals of the opening period, including one with six seconds remaining, as the two teams headed into intermission tied at seven.
Dove scored her third goal of the game to give the Orange an 8-7 advantage. After Dartmouth knotted the game at 8, Rowan scored on a free-position shot with 22:58 remaining to give the Orange a 9-8 lead. The Big Green held Syracuse scoreless for the next 20 minutes as Dartmouth built an 11-9 advantage. Rowan scored her second goal of the day with 1:43 to bring the Orange within one and had a chance to tie the game but her shot was saved by the Dartmouth goalie.
Syracuse outshot Dartmouth, 30-29, and held the advantage in groundballs, 13-11. Syracuse converted only two of its seven free-position shots while Dartmouth connected on four its seven attempts.
The Orange host Albany on Wednesday in its home opener. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
