Orange to Honor Dr. Reiner Against Notre Dame

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse alumna Dr. Melinda Reiner will be honored at halftime of the Orange's women's lacrosse game against No. 6 Notre Dame on Sunday, March 18. Reiner is being recognized by Syracuse University and the BIG EAST Conference as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The award recognizes the contributions of individuals who support girl's and women's athletics.
A plaque will be presented to Dr. Reiner during halftime.
Reiner earned a degree in broadcast journalism in 1984 and received a master's degree from Columbia University in 1987. She received her doctorate in 1995 from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Her practice specialty is sports medicine and trauma. Reiner served as the consulting physician to the University of Oregon Athletic Department from 1998-2006. In 2004 she was the first head girl's lacrosse coach at Thurston High School in Springfield, Oregon. She founded and presided over the Syracuse University Alumni Club of Oregon and Southwest Washington and was elected to the University's National Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2005.
Upon her return to Syracuse in 2006, Melinda began efforts to start a lacrosse program for inner-city girls on the south side of Syracuse. She is an active participant in the annual games hosted by Syracuse's Women's Lacrosse alumni.
