Coral Gables, Fla. – The Orange opened the 2007 outdoor track and field season by competing at the Hurricane Invitational. Eight different SU student-athletes placed in the top 10 in their respective events.
Coral Gables, Fla. – The Orange opened the 2007 outdoor track and field season by competing at the Hurricane Invitational. Eight different SU student-athletes placed in the top 10 in their respective events.
The afternoon was highlighted by senior Aulton Kohn’s performance in the 200m dash. Kohn finished second in the event with a NCAA Regional-qualifying time of 21.19.
Three male athletes also posted IC4A-qualifying marks. Juniors Ramon Sosa and Marcus Vaughn qualified for the championship in the 110m hurdles. Sosa finished fourth in the event with a time of 14.50, while Vaughn finished closely behind, placing sixth in 14.70.
Senior Dan Pribula placed third in the shot put, recording an IC4A-qualifying distance of 16.21m. Pribula also placed ninth in the discus throw (42.48m) and 13th in the hammer throw (45.18m).
Senior Kyra James led the Orange on the women’s side. She placed eight in the shot put with an ECAC-qualifying distance of 13.99m. In addition, James finished seventh in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.38m.
Other highlights on the women’s side included junior Jillian Drouin finishing ninth in the long jump (5.66m), freshman Lorraine Hill placing ninth in the javelin throw (35.15m) and freshman Monica Ridgeway finishing 10th in the discus throw (35.90).
The Orange is back in action on Saturday, March 24. Syracuse will compete in the Dick Shea Open hosted by Army.
