Princeton, N.J. – The Syracuse track and field teams competed at the Sam Howell Invitational, hosted by Princeton, during the weekend. Two SU student-athletes won individual events while two additional competitors qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Championship.

Princeton, N.J. – The Syracuse track and field teams competed at the Sam Howell Invitational, hosted by Princeton, during the weekend. Two SU student-athletes won individual events while two additional competitors qualified for the IC4A/ECAC Championship.
Senior Kyra James and freshman Melissa Romero each posted victories for the Orange women. James won the shot put with a mark of 13.40m, while Romero placed first in the high jump with a height of 1.65m. James also placed sixth in the discus throw (39.44m) and eighth in the hammer throw (44.74m).
Senior Katie Simon also had an impressive performance for SU. Simon finished fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase with an ECAC-qualifying time of 10:53.34. Freshman Lynne Mundy finished right behind Simon, placing fifth with a mark of 10:56.45.
Freshman Curtis Bixler led the men’s team with his performance in the 3,000m steeplechase. Bixler placed sixth in the event and recorded an IC4A-qualifying time of 9:15.79.
Additional highlights for the Orange included Justin Siegfried placing second in the 400m hurdles (56.19), Keisha Townsend finishing third in the 100m hurdles (15.04), Maegan Krifchin placing fourth in the 800m run (2:16.28) and Ebony Heckstall finishing fifth in the 100m dash (13.07).
The Orange returns to action next weekend, competing at the John Jacobs Invitational in Norman, Okla.
