SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Syracuse University junior utility softball player Chanel Roehner was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team at the conference’s annual awards banquet held on Wednesday, May 9. Roehner’s nod was her first career all-conference selection.

In league play, Roehner finished second the BIG EAST with a .463 batting average (25-54). She also ranked in the top-seven in slugging percentage (.704), on-base percentage (.491), hits (25) and doubles (7).

The junior also pitched 126.1 innings for the Orange, striking out 79 batters while compiling 12 victories and two saves.

Overall, Roehner is leading SU with a .345 batting average. She has scored 27 runs and driven in 29 more. She boats a .552 slugging percentage and has his 12 doubles and six home runs.

Roehner and the rest of the Orange (21-30, 9-11) finished sixth in the final regular-season league standings to earn its fourth BIG EAST Championship berth. SU takes on third-seeded Louisville (33-23, 14-6) at 10 a.m. in the quarterfinals when the eight-team single elimination extravaganza begins on Thursday, May 10.
