Future SU Lacrosse Players Rack Up Local Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Eight Syracuse lacrosse signees were honored by the Post-Standard on Friday, June 22. West Genesee goaltender John Galloway (Camillus, N.Y.) headlined the group, becoming the first netminder to be selected as the Central New York Player of the Year. Galloway and four other incoming Orange players were picked to the All-Central New York First Team.
Galloway led the Wildcats to a 21-2 overall record and another appearance in the New York State title game. He finished his career with a .750 save percentage and 590 saves. He was named a 2007 Under Armour All-American.
Joining Galloway on the All-CNY First Team were future Orange teammates Tom Guadagolo (Jordan, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge), Joel White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), Josh Amidon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) and Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy). Guadagnolo is the brother of current Orange star Kyle Guadagnolo. Tom Guadagnolo netted 34 goals and 14 assists in his career as a defender and was also selected to the Division II First Team.
White and Amidon were two of the top scoring midfielders in the area. Both players amassed 55 goals in 2007. White also had 48 assists for a total of 103 points. Amidon finished his career with 98 goals and 56 assists. Both players joined Galloway as Under Armour All-Americans. In addition, White was chosen as a member of the Class B First Team and Amidon was picked to the Division III First Team.
Harmatuk, an attackman, led the Brothers to the Section III Class C title a 21-2 overall mark in 2007. He scored 83 points (56g, 27a) in his final scholastic campaign and ended his high school career with 224 goals. Harmatuk joined Amidon on the Division III First Team.
Harmatuk’s teammate, midfielder Jovan Miller (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), was selected to the All-CNY Second Team. Miller was a 2007 Under Armour All-American and notched 42 goals and 15 assists as a senior. He was also a Division III first-team choice.
Galloway was also picked to the OHSL Division I National First Team on Friday. He was joined on the squad by Cicero-North Syracuse middie and future Orange teammate Jeff Gilbert (Liverpool, N.Y.). Gilbert netted 24 goals and tallied 35 assists in 2007.
West Genesee midfielder Tim Desko (Syracuse, N.Y.), son of SU head coach John Desko, was rewarded for his 2007 campaign by being named to the OHSL Division I National Second Team. Desko finished the year with 21 goals and 11 assists. He was also a key member of the Wildcats’ face-off unit.
Those eight players represent Syracuse’s future, but a member SU’s was also honored. Former Orange star Jamie Archer (1990-93) was selected as the Central New York Coach of Year. Archer led Jamesville-Dewitt to its first Class B state championship since 1986 this past season.
