Nichols and Brown Impressive in NBA Summer League Victories

Demitris Nichols ’07 (New York Knicks) had another impressive summer-league outing Thursday, July 12, scoring 17 points in the Knicks 96-84 win against the Sacramento Kings in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nev. Former Orange center Darryl Watkins '07 played for the Kings. In the 2007 Pepsi Pro Summer League in Orlando, Fla., Damone Brown ’01 (Orlando Magic) compiled 16 points, six rebounds, and two assists in 28 minutes.
Nichols played 28 minutes and shot 6-for-10 from the field, including a 3-for-4 effort behind the three-point line. Nichols also compiled four assists and two rebounds. The former Orange forward has averaged 14.7 points and 3.3 assists per game. The Knicks will attempt to remain undefeated Saturday, July 14, when they face the Golden State Warriors at 10 p.m.
Watkins tallied three points and three rebounds against the Knicks in eight minutes of play. Watkins and the Kings are 2-1 and will play again tomorrow night, July 14, versus the Houston Rockets at 8:30 p.m. Through three games, Watkins has averaged 3.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
Brown led the Magic in scoring, shooting 5-of-6 from the field and converting his only three-point attempt as the Magic defeated the Bulls, 88-72 to improve their summer-league record to 3-1. The former SU basketball standout has started every game and has averaged 9.8 points per game. The Magic will complete their play in the 2007 Pepsi Pro Summer League in a match-up against the Miami Heat beginning 20 minutes following the completion of the first game, which starts at 11 a.m.
Gerry McNamara ’06 (Philadelphia 76ers) and the 76ers summer-league squad will begin playing in the 2007 Rocky Mountain Revue in Salt Lake City, Utah today, at 4:30 p.m. versus the San Antonio Spurs.
