BALTIMORE, Md. – The honors continue to roll in for members of Syracuse’s incoming men’s lacrosse class. The group was well represented on the 2007 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-America Team as eight incoming Orange student-athletes were among the 350 from around the country to earn All-America status from the organization on Tuesday, July 31.
Josh Amidon (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette), John Galloway (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee), Tom Guadagnolo (Jordan, N.Y./Jordan-Elbridge), Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./CBA) and Joel White (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) were selected from the New York State Central Region. Keith Gresham (Wyckoff, N.Y./Don Bosco Prep) represented New Jersey, while Patrick Nemes (Novi, Mich./Catholic Central) represented Michigan, and Stephen Keogh (Toronto, Ontario/Brewster Academy) was picked from the Northern New England Region.
The process is coordinated by the high school committee of the U.S. Lacrosse Men’s Division Coaches Council. Area chairmen for the 80 geographic areas designated by the U.S. Lacrosse high school committee coordinated the voting. Each area is awarded a set number of slots for the team based on the number of high school lacrosse teams in their respective areas.
Amidon tied for sixth in Section III with 55 goals and finished the 2007 season with 89 points from his midfield spot. He led Lafayette to a 17-4 overall record in 2007 and was an Under Armour All-America selection.
Galloway helped the Wildcats to the state title game and a 21-1 record in 2007. One of the nation’s top high school goaltenders, he recorded 299 saves and posted the best save percentage of any Central New York goalie last season. He was a 2007 Under Armour All-American and became the first goalie to be named the Central New York Player of the Year by the Post-Standard.
Guadagnolo is the brother of current SU defenseman Kyle Guadagnolo. In addition to playing stout defense for Jordan-Elbridge, Guadagnolo scored 10 goals and had six assists in 2007.
Harmatuk, an attackman, led the Brothers to Section III Class C titles in each of the last two years. CBA also posted a 40-6 record during that span. In 2007, Harmatuk completed his final scholastic campaign with 83 points (56g, 27a) and the Brothers finished with a 21-2 overall mark and advanced to the state quarterfinals.
White, a midfielder, was recently tabbed to represent the U.S. at the 2008 U-19 World Championship. He ranked in the top five in the area in scoring in 2007 and finished the year with 103 points (55g, 48a). He was also named a 2007 Under Armour All-American.
Gresham tallied 68 points in 2007 (57g, 11a) and he averaged 3.2 points per contest in the midfield. Against Montclair in the regular season, he netted seven of Don Boscoe’s 10 goals to spur the Ironmen to a 10-9 triumph. Gresham was also a groundball machine, scooping up 119 on the year.
Keogh helped Brewster to its third straight Northern New England Championship. The Bobcats finished 13-1 and were ranked fourth overall in New England. Keogh was named MVP of the 2007 East/West All-Star Game after scoring five goals to lead the East to an 11-10 win. He finished his career as Brewster’s all-time leading scorer with 205 points (124g, 81a).
The honor marked the second straight All-America nod for Nemes, who helped lead the Catholic Central Shamrocks to the Division I Michigan State title game in 2007. He finished the year with 50 goals and 37 assists and he was an All-Catholic League selection in each of his four scholastic seasons.
