The Orange tips-off the season against Coppin State in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday, November 17 in the Women's National Invitational Classic. The two teams have only faced once in SU history, a 101-38 victory in 1995 in favor of the Orange. It was just the third time to that point that the Orange broke the 100-point barrier.
The Eagles finished the season 25-8 and became the first team from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to win a women’s basketball Division I postseason game. Coppin State advanced to the second round of the WNIT before losing to South Florida, 66-49.
The MEAC regular-season champions return its top two scorers from a year ago, Rashida Suber (18.9 ppg) and Shalamar Oakley (12.5 ppg). The seniors were also the only two Eagles to start every game last season.
