SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse volleyball team, riding a season-high four-match win streak, return to the road this week starting Tuesday against in-state rival Binghamton at 7:00 p.m. From there, the Orange head to the University of New Hampshire for a weekend tournament with Southern Methodist and Holy Cross. Syracuse opens tournament-play on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against SMU.

“I hope we can build off this weekend with trying to get better mentally and physically,” said second-year assistant coach Carol LaMarche. “We really want to make the BIG EAST Tournament this year. In order to do that, we need to keep getting better.”
Orange Rewind
After defeating in-state rival Albany, improving their record to 2-0 against teams from the state of New York, Syracuse ran off three straight victories against Princeton (3-2), Fordham (3-0) and Texas Tech (3-1) to be crowned the Big Orange Tournament champions. The Orange’s record in Manley Field House improved to 5-0 for the season.
Sophomore Kacie MacTavish tallied three straight double-doubles against Albany (12 kills, 14 digs), Princeton (19 kills, 13 digs) and Fordham (12 kills, 11 digs), and was named the Big Orange Tournament Most Valuable Player. Senior Joscie Kaup received all-tournament team accolades.
Behind a team-high 22 kills from senior Cheryl Cobbina, the Orange capped off the weekend with an emphatic 3-1 win against Texas Tech. With the win, Syracuse became the first team in the BIG EAST to defeat a team from the Big 12.
With the 3-0 sweep of Fordham on Saturday, head coach Jing Pu, in his 13th season at Syracuse, captured his 250th career win with the Orange. Additionally, Pu now stands 10 wins shy of his 400th career coaching victory.

Scouting the Bearcats (6-4)
Syracuse vs. Binghamton (9/11, 7:00 p.m.)
The Orange heads South down Interstate-81 to meet Binghamton, who has posted a 6-4 overall mark this season. The Bearcats have won four straight matches, including three 3-0 sweeps against St. Francis (NY), Canisius and Youngstown State. Tuesday night marks Binghamton’s first home match of the season.
In the Bearcats’ last win against Kent State, senior Kathleen Schauer collected a team-high 29 kills. Freshman Lindsey Mueller served up 66 assists and junior Jaclyn Strader tallied 33 digs.
Junior Ashley Allen leads all Bearcats with 92 kills this season.
Mueller has paced the Binghamton offense with 344 assists. Defensively, Strader has posted 180 digs and senior Jacki Kane has totaled 52 total blocks.
All-time, Syracuse holds a 14-2 all-time advantage over Binghamton. The Orange last defeated the Bearcats in three games in 2006. Syracuse has captured the last seven decisions with Binghamton last win coming in 1976.
Scouting the Mustangs (5-5)
Syracuse vs. Southern Methodist (9/14, 4:30 p.m.)
Southern Methodist has tallied a 7-3 record after two straight wins against Prairie View A&M and Baylor. The Mustangs meet Texas-San Antonio before their first match at the New Hampshire Tournament against the Orange on Friday.
In the 3-1 win against Baylor, junior Natalie Peters posted 14 kills and junior Stefanie Kons tallied 35 assists to lead the Mustangs. Sophomore Candice Davis collected 21 digs and sophomore Kendra Kahamek added five total blocks.
Through 10 matches, senior Rachel Giubilato has tallied a team-leading 160 kills. Kons paces all Mustangs with a squad-best 409 assists. Davis leads the SMU defensive backline with 182 digs.
All-time, Southern Methodist holds a 1-0 series advantage over Syracuse. SMU defeated the Orange in 2000, 3-1.
Scouting the Wildcats (6-4)
Syracuse vs. New Hampshire (9/15, 12:30 p.m.)
New Hampshire hosts the Crusaders, Orange and Mustangs with a 6-4 overall record in 2007. The Wildcats have lost four of their last six matches. Friday night’s meeting with Holy Cross marks the home-opener for New Hampshire.
In the Wildcats’ last win, a 3-0 sweep of Temple, senior Emily Blouin posted a team-high 13 kills and sophomore Kate Uitti collected a team-best 32 assists. Sophomore Alyse Lahti collected 22 digs.
Thus far in 2007, Blouin leads all Wildcats with 126 kills while Uitti has served a club-leading 326 assists. Defensively, Lahti has led the New Hampshire backline with 153 digs.
All-time, Syracuse holds a 5-0 series advantage over New Hampshire with its last victory, 3-1, coming in 2006.
Scouting the Crusaders (3-7)
Syracuse vs. Holy Cross (9/15, 4:30 p.m.)
Holy Cross enters the weekend tournament with a 3-7 overall record, and on the wrong side of three decisions in their last four matches. The Crusaders meet Providence on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. before the weekend.
In the Crusaders last win, a 3-0 sweep of Coppin State, senior Christine Strawson tallied a team-high 19 kills. Freshman Chelsey O’Donnell collected 33 assists as junior Molly Anderson totaled 11 digs.
Against Loyola, Strawson became Holy Cross’ all-time leader in career kills. She leads the Crusaders with 151 kills this season. O’Donnell has sparked the Holy Cross offense to the tune of a team-best 331 assists. Anderson leads the HC defense with 132 digs.
All-time, Syracuse holds a 2-0 series advantage against Holy Cross with its last victory, 3-0, coming in 1992. The series dates back to 1986.
