ITHACA, N.Y. – The Syracuse women’s indoor track and field team posted a second-place finish on Saturday at the Cornell Upstate Challenge behind first-place efforts in six events. The Orange men finished third and collected three event crowns.
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Syracuse women’s indoor track and field team posted a second-place finish on Saturday at the Cornell Upstate Challenge behind first-place efforts in six events. The Orange men finished third and collected three event crowns.
The Orange women were led by the BIG EAST and ECAC-qualifying performances from freshman Lareea Chisholm and graduate Sheron Mark. Chisholm tallied a first-place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 7.66 seconds. Mark collected the top distances in the long jump (5.76m) and triple jump (12.16m) for the second time in as many weeks.
Senior Jillian Drouin posted two BIG EAST-qualifying performances in the 60m hurdles and the long jump. Drouin finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.93) and third in the long jump (5.50m). Senior Kaity Lambracht qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a third-place finish in the long jump (5.56m).
Junior Nana Sang-Bender’s first-place finish in the 800m run claimed a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 2:16.17. Sophomore Maegan Krifchin (10:00.29) and senior Liz Cufari (17:34.33) qualified for the conference championship with first-place performances in the 3,000m run and 5,000m run, respectively.
Junior Christina Connolly finished third in the triple jump and qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a distance of 11.40m.
The SU men were powered by the BIG EAST and IC4A-qualifying performances from junior Bernard Bush, senior Jordan Davis, senior Kyle Heath and junior Jeff Scull. Bush qualified for both championships with a second-place finish in the 60m dash (6.98) and an event title in the long jump (7.33m). Additionally, he improved his BIG EAST-qualifying distance in the triple jump with a tally of 14.06m.
Davis (14:24.97), Heath (14:40.69) and Scull (14:45.44) placed one through three, respectively, in the 5,000m run. Heath (4:16.48) and Davis (4:19.28) qualified for the BIG EAST Championship in the one mile run with first and fourth-place times, respectively.
Senior Ramon Sosa finished fourth in the 60m dash and qualified for the conference championship with a time of 7.03. Junior Terry Marshall’s second-place performance in the 60m hurdles (8.27) also earned a trip to the BIG EAST Championship.
The Orange men and women’s indoor track and field teams are back in action for the two-day Penn State National Open on Friday and Saturday, January 25 – 26.
