, N.Y. – Behind the long-range three-point attack from freshman Donte’ Greene, the Orange has built a 30-21 lead at halftime against Providence at the Carrier Dome.
Greene shot 3-for-7 from beyond the three-point arc en route to a game-high XX points. The Baltimore, Md., native punctuated a 12-3 Orange run with a 22-foot jumper. Greene was fouled on the attempt, but missed the extra free throw.
The Orange and Friars struggled to find much offensive rhythm in the opening minutes. However, Syracuse seized control of the game’s tempo after sophomore Paul Harris ignited the scoring run from the charity stripe. On the ensuing SU possession, Greene stroked the first of his three three-point field goals. Freshman center Rick Jackson joined the act with a smooth, left-hand jump-hook from the low-block.
Junior forward Jonathan Kale led the Providence offense with eight points off 10th-year head coach Tim Welsh’s bench. The Friars connected on just 1-of-12 tries from three-point range.
