Syracuse Cruises, Stays Unbeaten with 7-0 Win Against Georgetown

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse tennis team continued its early-season success with a commanding 7-0 win against BIG EAST foe Georgetown at the Drumlins Tennis Center on Sunday. The Orange, under the guidance of second-year head coach Luke Jensen, improved its record to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST, following Friday’s 6-1 victory against Cincinnati.
Freshman team captain Christina Tan tallied a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win against junior Courtney Olsen at No. 1 singles. Fellow rookie Simone Kalhorn posted her second win of the season with a 6-0, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles against freshman Maxi Thiels.
Junior Maria Vasilyeva totaled a 6-4, 6-1 win against senior Stephanie Cohen at No. 3 singles, while sophomore Ashley Spicer claimed her first-career win with the Orange, a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at the No. 4 position versus junior Courtney Kuehn.
Rookie Jacquelynn Tang continued the Orange momentum with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles against senior Liz Winokur. Sophomore Chelsea Jones collected an identical 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 6 versus freshman Elizabeth Sullivan.
Georgetown freshman Alex Sebia tallied a 6-2 win against Orange freshman Katlyn Haycock in exhibition singles play.
The Orange set the stage for singles play with two wins in three matches in doubles competition. Vasilyeva and Jones downed Sullivan and Winokur, 8-3, at No. 2., while Spicer and Tang earned their second narrow victory, an 8-6 win against Thiels and Sebia at No. 3. Tan and Kalhorn suffered the Orange's lone defeat of the afternoon, an 8-3 loss to Olsen and Cohen at No. 1.
Syracuse (2-0, 2-0) hits the road for its first of a four-match road-swing on Saturday, February 2 at 11:00 a.m. (ET) against Kansas State.
