Volleyball Travels to Wisconsin to Face Marquette in BIG EAST Road Match

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team is back on the road this weekend facing Marquette in its sixth BIG EAST matchup this season. Action begins at 2 p.m. at Marquette’s Al McGuire Center.
“Marquette had a win over a top-ranked BIG EAST team on its home court,” head coach Jing Pu said. “In preparing for this tough road matchup, we are focusing on improving our performances on offense and defense and our ability to deliver solid passing.”

Syracuse heads into the match with the Golden Eagles on a three-game winning streak after posting wins against Georgetown (3-1), South Florida (3-1) and Niagara (3-0). The Orange also looks to continue its seven-game road winning streak which began at the Delaware Tournament against New Hampshire on Sept. 6.

Marquette is ranked 12th in the BIG EAST heading into this weekend’s matchup with the Orange. In conference play, Marquette has posted wins against both Rutgers and St. John’s. However, the team has lost its last three matches to Connecticut, South Florida and Georgetown.
The Marquette volleyball team opened preseason play hosting the Marquette Kickoff, one of three volleyball tournaments hosted at the Al McGuire Center. After competing in the University of Northern Iowa Tournament (1-2), Marquette hosted the Marquette Challenge (2-1) and the Marquette Cheese Bowl (1-2).
Team leaders for Marquette include Ashlee Fisher (235 kills), Tiara Russel (73 total blocks), Caryn Mastandrea (548 assists) and Amy Deelo (216 digs).
Up Next
Syracuse will be back on the road next week for a Tuesday night matchup at Siena. This will be the second time the two teams have met this season after Syracuse hosted the Saints at the Big Orange Tournament. From there, the Orange hosts Cincinnati and Louisville the weekend of Oct. 24. Both matches will be played in the women’s building.
