Orange Tries to Avoid Spiders' Web

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men’s basketball squad (1-0) will host Richmond (1-0) on Tuesday, Nov. 18 in its second game of the 2008 O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic. Tip time is 6:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. Both teams won their season openers over the weekend. Syracuse is coming off an 85-51 victory against Le Moyne Sunday. The Spiders handed Randolph-Macon an 81-57 defeat in their campaign starter on Saturday.
Tickets for Tuesday’s game are available online, by phone through Ticketmaster in the Syracuse area at (315) 472-0700, or in person at the Carrier Dome Box Office. Fans not in attendance can watch the game live on ESPN or listen to the action via the Syracuse ISP Sports Network and its flagship station TK 99 (99.5 FM). Syracuse played stout defense all night, forcing 26 Le Moyne turnovers, including 19 steals. The Orange’s 19 thefts were two shy of the school single-game record.

Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas and Florida Gulf Coast will compete in the Lawrence Regional; Le Moyne, Syracuse and Richmond will play in the Syracuse Regional; Toledo, Florida and Bradley will compete in the Gainesville Regional, and Cleveland, Washington and Florida International will play in the Seattle Regional.
The tournament was originally established in 2001 as the Guardians Classic in partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The event is now named after the College Basketball Experience, an interactive facility for college basketball fans that is a part of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Since the start of the CBE Classic in 2001, every team that has won the event has gone on to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
SCOUTING RICHMOND
Sophomore Kevin Anderson posted a game-high 17 points in the team’s win against Randolph Macon. Anderson led four Spiders in double figures. Redshirt freshman Josh Duinker recorded a game-best nine rebounds. He also contributed 13 points.

The Spiders are coming off a 16-15 campaign in 2007-08. They finished fourth in the Atlantic 10 last season, tying their highest regular-season finish in their seven years in the conference.
Head coach Chris Mooney is in his fourth season with the Spiders. Prior to working at Richmond, Mooney was head coach at Air Force and Division III Beaver College. A 1994 Princeton graduate, Mooney played his collegee ball for Hall of Famer Pete Carril.
