Junior forward Juanita Ward tallied a career-high 20 points and registered a season-best five steals en route to yielding her first conference award since donning the Orange uniform.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior forward Juanita Ward was named to the BIG EAST honor roll for the first time in her Syracuse career after her dominating performance against Niagara on Sunday afternoon.
Ward, a transfer from Odessa College, put forth a sound performance in the 39-point trouncing of the Purple Eagles. Ward scored a career-high 20 points behind 8-of-12 shooting and registered a career-best five steals. The Bolton, Miss. native also grabbed nine boards and handed out four assists.
Through 10 games, Ward leads the Orange with 9.6 rebounds per game. She has also made her way to the free throw line the most frequently with 7.1 attempts per outing, converting a team-best 5.3 per game. Ward is third on the team with 121 points behind 33-of-90 (36.7 percent) from the field. Defensively, Ward has recorded 17 steals and four blocks.
Ward joins senior forward Chandrea Jones as one of two Orange to be selected for the weekly award. Jones garnered the award two weeks in a row after generating big numbers against Longwood and at the 2008 Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout and for her perfomances in SU's first four games of the year.
The Syracuse women's basketball team is off to an 8-2 start and has won its last four straight contests. The Orange revisits the Carrier Dome hardwood for the final leg of the five-game homestand on Sunday, December 21st at 4 p.m. when Syracuse hosts Ohio University.
