The Orange is coming off a nail-biting 69-66 victory at No. 23/24 DePaul on Tuesday, Jan 29. The win was the first against a ranked opponent since SU defeated No. 24/22 Boston College, 76-71, on Jan. 18, 2003. The triumph also secured SU's third straight conference win, which last happened during the end of the 2001-02 season when the Orange won the final two regular season contest and two BIG EAST Tournament games.
Syracuse held a nine-point advantage (64-55) with just under four minutes remaining, but DePaul fought back with a 10-0 run and grabbed a one-point lead (65-64) with 1:14 remaining. Junior guard Chandrea Jones' rebound and putback with 12 seconds left put the Orange ahead for the final time.
Sophomore forward Vionca Murray provided a career-high 17 points and freshman guard Erica Morrow tallied 15. Jones finished with 12 and sophomore guard Nicole Michael produced 11 points.
Senior center Fantasia Goodwin, the Orange's leading rebounder (9.6 rpg), hauled in a team-high 10 boards and added nine points to the box score.
The Orange outrebounded the Blue Demons, 44-38, and is undefeated this season when winning the rebounding battle. SU's record is also unblemished when it shoots 40.0 percent or better (12-0), scores 60-69 points (5-0) or 80-89 points (4-0), allows 59 or fewer points (11-0) or 70-79 points (1-0), plays on a neutral floor (2-0), in games decided by four or fewer points (3-0), when tied at halftime (1-0).
Saturday's game will be the 47th all-time meeting between the two schools and the series is tied 23-23. The two squads have split the 40 regular-season games, 20-20, since the formation of the BIG EAST women's basketball league in 1982-83.
Syracuse won the last meeting, 65-58, last season on Feb. 27. Center Vaida Sipaviciute paced the Orange with 20 points and Michael contributed 19 points.
Georgetown has lost six of its last seven contests, including its last two at West Virginia, 67-35, on Jan. 26 and at Marquette, 60-55, on Jan. 30. Monica McNutt netted a career-high 21 points in her first-ever start and knocked down a career-best six three-pointers at Marquette.
