ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Stacie Boyle and freshman Catherine DeSarle paced the Orange attack with first-place finishes in the 500m dash and 3,000m run, respectively, at the Cornell Open on Saturday.
ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Stacie Boyle and freshman Catherine DeSarle paced the Orange attack with first-place finishes in the 500m dash and 3,000m run, respectively, at the Cornell Open on Saturday.
Boyle tallied a first-place and season-best time of 1:20.25. Sophomore Racquel Clarke complimented Boyle’s efforts with a second-place finish and time of 1:22.26.
DeSarle, making her indoor season debut, led the 3,000m field with a time of 10:14.01.
Junior Kayla Carter totaled a time of 9.44 seconds in the 60m hurdles, eclipsing a season-best effort and placing third. In addition, Carter’s fourth-place performance in the triple jump was a season-best and earned a BIG EAST-qualifying mark of 11.30m.
Freshman LaTimberly Johnson posted a third-place performance and career-high time of 7.99 seconds in the 60m dash.
On the men’s side, junior Mike Chitro finished sixth in the men’s heptathlon standing with a season-high 4,564 points, claiming an invite to the BIG EAST Championship with a high jump leap of 1.94m. Freshman Evan Stivala qualified for the conference finals with a season-best distance of 6.70m in the long jump.
Sophomore Jon Buice qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a fourth-place time of 8.42 seconds in the 60m hurdles.
Sophomore Brad Miller led the Syracuse charge in the one-mile run, finishing third and less than one second shy of a BIG EAST-qualifying performance with a season-high time of 4:20.47.
The Orange men and women’s indoor track & field teams return to action on Saturday, February 16 at the Binghamton Triangular.
