NEW YORK – Former Syracuse lacrosse standouts Casey Powell, Ryan Powell and Jarett Park have been selected as 2008 National Lacrosse League All-Stars. Park and Casey Powell will represent the East in the 2008 NLL All-Star Game on Sunday, March 16 at Rexall Place in Edmonton. Ryan Powell will compete for the West.
Casey Powell, the New York Titans’ captain, was a four-time All-American for the Orange from 1995-98. His brother, Ryan, also earned four All-America nods as a member of the Orange (1997-00) and currently plays for the Portland Lumberjax. Park, Casey Powell’s teammate on the Titans, concluded his SU career in 2005 and was a member of the 2002 and 2004 NCAA Championship squads.
Casey Powell was just named NLL Offensive and Overall Player of the Week for his performance in the Titans’ 14-11 victory against defending champs the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Blue Cross Arena. Powell scored a game-high nine points on three goals and six assists. He also scooped up eight loose balls in the win. Currently, Powell is second in the league in points with 48, one point behind Buffalo’s John Tavares. He is seventh in the league in scoring with 19 goals and third in the league in assists with 29.
This is the second time Powell has made an appearance in the All-Star game as a Titan and the fifth selection in his six-year career.
Ryan Powell has 12 goals and 19 assists for a total of 31 points this season. His selection marks the second time he has been voted an NLL All-Star.
This is the first time Jarett Park has been voted to the NLL All-Star team. The right-handed transition player is one of the fastest players in the NLL. Often responsible for doing some of the Titans’ dirty work on the field, Park is a loose ball machine and has become Titans’ Jamie Hanford’s go-to guy during faceoffs. Park has collected 91 loose balls, which is second in the league behind the Portland’s Brodie Merrill, who has 97.
In the Titans’ game against the Buffalo Bandits at home on Feb. 10, Park earned Transition Player of the week after scoring a goal and scooping up a season-high 19 loose balls.
