More than 4,000 lacrosse fans gathered at the Carrier Dome on Saturday, February 9 for Gary Gait's Laxapalooza, presented by Syracuse University and TK99 FM and Galaxy Communications. The event featured the Syracuse men's lacrosse squad's scrimmage against Harvard, a youth clinic with the Orange men's and women's teams and a shooting demonstration by Syracuse head women's lacrosse coach Gary Gait, Paul Gait and Mike Powell.
The SU men's squad came from behind to defeat Harvard, 14-9, in its final warm-up for the 2008 season. Following the game, Powell and his band, Villains Trust, entertained the crowd with a performance.
Youth ages 8-18 had the opportunity to refine their skills in a clinic with members of the Orange lacrosse teams.
At the conclusion of the clinic, everyone gathered near the east end zone to watch three All-Americans compete in a shooting contest. Three of the greatest players in the history of the sport, Gary and Paul Gait and Powell astounded the crowd with their stick work and trick shots.
The Syracuse women's lacrosse team opens the 2008 season against Canisius on Wednesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
