
Flynn, Greene Earn USBWA All-District II Honors

SYRACUSE, NY -- Freshmen Jonny Flynn and Donte Greene were each named to the United States Basketball Writers of America (USBWA) District II team. The 10-member squad was announced on March 11 after balloting by USBWA members.
Joining the two Syracuse rookies on the USBWA District II squad were: Antoine Agudio (Hofstra), Bryant Dunston(Fordham), Charron Fisher (Niagara), Roy Hibbert (Georgetown),Brian Laing (Seton Hall), Jason Thompson (Rider), Edwin Ubiles (Siena) and Ryan Wittman (Cornell). Cornell coach Steve Donohue was named USBWA District Coach of the Year and Jason Thompson (Rider) selected as USBWA District II Player of the Year.
Flynn and Greene have both started all 31 games of their freshman campaigns. Flynn is averaging 15.9 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest, while leading the Orange in assists with 163. Greene leads the team in scoring with a 17.5 average and has pulled down an average of 7.4 rebounds per outing.
Flynn and Greene were also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District First Team on Monday.
Syracuse is preparing to open the BIG EAST Conference Tournament on Wednesday, March 12. The ninth-seeded Orange are paired with eighth-seeded Villanova at noon in the first game of the event.
