FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Seniors Ramon Sosa and Jillian Drouin competed on day one of Division I Indoor NCAA Championship on Friday at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center. Sosa finished sixth in the first preliminary heat of the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.90 seconds. Drouin placed 17th in the high jump with a tally of 1.75m.
Sosa, who owns Syracuse’s school record in the 60m hurdles, tallies his fifth-best performance of the indoor season at the national championship. He did not qualify for Saturday’s final.
Sosa collected a program-best 7.78 seconds en route to an All-BIG EAST performance on February 24. He owns the Orange’s top nine performances in the event this season, including two first-place finishes.
Drouin’s performance on Friday comes on the heels of her record-matching leap at the ECAC Championship on March 9. She finished first with a total of 1.82m, matching Diane Phillips’ school record established 1987.
Drouin finished second and earned all-conference honors at the BIG EAST Championship with a height of 1.80m. She placed first in the pentathlon at the conference finals with an SU school-record and Armory Track (N.Y.) Open standard 4,099 points.
Graduate Sheron Mark will be the third and final member of the Orange competing at the NCAA Championship on Saturday in the triple jump. She qualified for the finals with a school-record leap of 13.04m and third-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship.
