BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Syracuse softball doubleheader at Binghamton, originally scheduled for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 26, has been postponed due to inclement weather and field conditions. Also, the Orange's originally scheduled home-opener against Albany on Wednesday, Apr. 2 has been cancelled.
The Orange was scheduled to meet the Bearcats for the fourth time since March 14. The two teams met at the College of Charleston Classic where SU claimed two extra-innings victories. SU won the first contest, 2-1, and junior shortstop Jamie Kelling led the way with two hits, while senior centerfielder/pitcher Chanel Roehner scored two runs. Sophomore ace Brittany Gardener pitched 7.1 innings, striking out a season-best nine batters en route to her second win of the year.
During the second game and the conclusion of the classic for the Orange, juniors Amy Kelley and Lindsay Wasek and freshman Hallie Gibbs each homered, helping Syracuse claim at 6-5 victory. Senior outfielder Rachel Tilford's single in the top of the eight to score Roehner proved to be the winner.
The Orange begins BIG EAST play on Saturday, March 29 when it heads to Rutgers for a doubleheader slated for a noon start. A doubleheader at Villanova follows on Sunday, March 30 at noon.
