SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 5/6 Syracuse women’s lacrosse team returns to on Sunday when it hosts Hofstra at noon in the Carrier Dome. The Orange improved its overall record to 3-1 and remained unbeaten at home when it defeated Binghamton, 22-8, on Tuesday. Hofstra enters the contest with a 2-1 record. Orange fans can follow all of the action on Orange All Access, which provides live audio and video feeds as well as live stats. The game will also be broadcast live on WJPZ 89.1 FM in Syracuse.
The game is part of a doubleheader with the Syracuse men's lacrosse squad, which plays Georgetown at 3:30 p.m. Admission to the game is $5 through halftime. Following halftime, admission will be $8.
QUILLINAN NETS CAREER HIGH
Sophomore Halley Quillinan scored a career-high six goals in Syracuse’s win against Binghamton. Previously, Quillinan had scored five goals in a game three times. Her six goals tie her for fifth on the school’s single-game record list and tie her with junior Katie Rowan for the team high for goals scored in a game this season. Quillinan is one of three players with 13 goals this season, and she ranks third on the team in scoring with 15 points.
With six goals against Binghamton, Quillinan now has 63 goals in her career. She needs just two more goals to break into the top 10 on Syracuse’s career goals scored leader list. Caitlyn Dragon and Jill DePetris are tied for ninth in career goals with 65.
NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
The Orange has dominated play against schools from New York State since its arrival on the women’s lacrosse scene. After Syracuse’s 22-8 victory against Canisius, the Orange owns a 27-5 all-time record against in-state schools (.844 winning percentage) with all five losses coming to Cornell. Syracuse has never lost to a school from New York at the Carrier Dome, winning all 20 games.
LENDING A HELPING HAND
Syracuse has recorded 35 assists on 72 goals this season. Of the 72 goals, 13 have come on free position shots. That means that of the goals that did not come via the free position, 59 percent were scored off an assist. Through games of Mar. 2, the Orange leads the BIG EAST in assists per game. Junior Katie Rowan leads the team with 11 assists, while Kristin Brady has dished out seven this season.
