SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Thursday, April 17 is the last day to participate in SU lacrosse's semester-long can tab collection to benefit the local Ronald McDonald House. Fans are encouraged to deposit their aluminum can tabs in one of the several collection boxes on campus and around the University Community.
At halftime of Friday's game against Albany, the tabs will be presented by the lacrosse program to the Ronald McDonald House.
Back in January, the team and the Syner-Cuse student marketing group from the University’s sports management program teamed up to begin collecting the aluminum tabs. The Orange placed collection boxes at Gate B of the Dome for each home game as well as University dining halls, cafés, various campus office buildings, and in many of the stores on Marshall Street.
The local Ronald McDonald House Chapter will bring the collected tabs to local recycling centers where they will be weighed to determine their value. The recycling center then sends the chapter a check for the total value of the collected tabs. One pound of tabs is worth 57 cents, and one gallon of tabs (4,175 tabs) is worth $1.49. To date, more than 400 million tabs have been collected, generating more than $4 million.
