
"Basket Ball" Ready For Ninth Year

SYRACUSE, NY -- The annual Coaches vs. Cancer "Basket Ball," hosted by Jim and Juli Boeheim, is ready for its ninth event. Scheduled for April 26 at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Vernoa, this year's "Basket Ball" features JT Taylor, the former lead singer of Kool & The Gang. Saint Joseph's (Pa.) men's basketball coach Phil Martelli will serve as master of ceremonies.
Additional entertainment will be provided by Rochester band Nik and the Nice Guys and the Jazzniks. A live and silent auction will be conducted during the event.
Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is the title sponsor of the Gala for the seventh consecutive year.
Doreen and Mike Figler, former "Basket Ball" event co-chairs, will receive the Clarie Smith Fan of the Year Award.
Since 1993, Coaches vs. Cancer, a cooperative effort between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), has raised more than $40 million. More than 500 high school and college coaches participate in the program.
