Pellerin, Sosa Qualify for NCAA Regional at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore Annabelle Pellerin and senior Ramon Sosa became the ninth and 10th Syracuse track & field student-athletes, respectively, to qualify for the NCAA Regional on Sunday at the Cornell Big Red Invitational. The Orange totaled six event titles, two ECAC/IC4A-qualifying performances and 13 invites to the BIG EAST Championship.
Pellerin captured the high jump championship with a leap of 1.75m, joining senior Jillian Drouin as the second Orange performer to qualify for the event's regional final. Prior to Sunday, she posted a season-best first-place mark of 1.60m at the Dick Shea Open. Pellerin, also a member of the Orange volleyball team, surpassed Cornell's Kane Complex standard, previously held by the Big Red's Ellen White and Laura Jordan.
Sosa collected his first event title of the outdoor season with a time of 14.16 seconds in the 110m hurdles. The performance eclipsed his tally of 14.24 seconds, set last season as the Kane Complex record. Sosa joins teammate Terry Marshall as the second member of the Orange to qualify for the NCAA Regional in the 110m hurdles.
Rookie Victor Nwosu finished first in the long jump with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 7.33m, missing an NCAA Regional qualifying performance by just .01m. Drouin posted a first-place finish in the 110m hurdles with an ECAC-qualifying time of 14.20 seconds. Senior Kaity Lambracht finished second with a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 14.76 seconds.
Sophomore Lynne Mundy tallied a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 10:56.53 and placed first in the 3000m steeplechase. She improved upon her previous conference standard (11:05.22) by nearly 10 seconds. Teammates Stefanie Slekis (11:22.52) and Jillian Kosinski (11:24.29) finished third and fourth, respectively, with conference –qualifying tallies.
Freshman Liz McCarter posted the top time in the 1500m run with a time of 4:42.09.
Senior Lauren McClenney qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a second-place performance and time of 1:03.34 seconds in the 400m hurdles.
Sophomore Melissa Romero placed second behind Pellerin in the high jump, qualifying for the BIG EAST final with a leap of 1.66m. Sophomore Uhunoma Osazuwa (5.64m) and junior Kayla Carter (11.01m) posted conference championship standards in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.
Sophomore Monica Ridgeway qualified for the BIG EAST Championship with a second-place finish and distance of 47.08m in the hammer throw. Drouin earned an invite to the conference championship with a second-place performance and mark of 39.06m in the javelin throw.
Sophomore Jon Buice joined Sosa in the 110m hurdles, finishing fourth with a BIG EAST-qualifying time of 15.23 seconds.
Rookie Kwaku Boah (14.73m) and senior Michael Cox (51.33m) posted BIG EAST-qualifying marks in the shot put and hammer throw, respectively.
The Orange's outdoor track & field postseason begins on Saturday, May 3 at the BIG EAST Championship, hosted by Villanova.
