SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The softball team's home-opening doubleheader, which was suspended due to inclement weather on Friday, against Providence will resume on Saturday at noon. Syracuse holds a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth in game one. In the second inning, freshman third baseman Hallie Gibbs added to SU's 1-0 advantage by hiting the program's eighth all-time grand slam.

Syracuse holds a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth in game one. In the second inning, freshman third baseman Hallie Gibbs added to SU's 1-0 advantage by hiting the program's eighth all-time grand slam.
The long ball is the fourth Gibbs career and she now tied for the team lead with 14 RBI. The Munster, Ind. native homered in her very first collegiate at-bat, becoming the first SU student-athlete ever accomplish the feat. She was named to the Getterman Classic (Feb. 15-17) All-Tournament Team.
Senior pitcher Chanel Roehner is in the middle of a three-hit shutout and preserved the unblemished scoreboard by striking out Friar's junior outfielder Mary Rose Sheehy, batting in the three spot, during the top of the fifth. Roehner boasts a 5-5 record, including five wins in as many decisions.
The Orange holds a 10-17 record and is 3-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Friars are 15-12-1 and 1-1 in the conference.
BIG EAST for Connecticut comes to the SU Softball Stadium on Sunday, April 6 for a noon doubleheader.
