The Orange softball team is back in action on Sunday with a noon doubleheader against Connecticut at the SU Softball Stadium at SkyTop and will try and improve on its 12-17 record and 5-1 conference mark, while the Huskies are 13-13 and 2-2 in the conference.

The Orange is six games into the BIG EAST schedule and has produced five wins behind a .320 batting average and a 0.85 ERA during those games.
Junior catcher Amy Kelley is batting .467 (7-for-15) during BIG EAST play and is on a ten-game hitting streak and senior outfielder Rachel Tilford (left) is batting .450 (9-for-20). Junior shortstop Jamie Kelling and junior second baseman Lindsay Wasek are also batting about the .400 mark with .409 and .400 averages respectively. Junior first baseman Nicole Miller leads the team during the last six with seven RBI, while freshman third baseman Hallie Gibbs is second with six.
Senior pitcher Chanel Roehner has tallied a 3-0 record with a 0.67 ERA and eight strikeouts during conference play. Sophomore pitcher Brittany Gardner is 2-1 with a 1.05 ERA and 13 strikeouts during that span. The Orange’s BIG EAST opponents are batting .230 against Roehner and Gardner.
Syracuse and Connecticut have met 15 times since 2000 and the Orange owns a 8-7 advantage with SU winning the last five. Last year, Syracuse swept Connecticut at the SU Softball Stadium 9-8 in eight innings during game one and 6-4 during game two.
The Huskies have won eight of 11 and are coming off a split at Pittsburgh on Saturday. They took the first game, 8-3, but lost the second, 1-0. Melissa Lucas leads the team with a .400 average, a .662 slugging percentage and is third with 12 RBI.
Sarah Neuschwander leads the team with 16 RBI and is second with three home runs.
