Six Orange Earn All-Region First-Team Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Six members of the Syracuse women’s lacrosse team have been named to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team. The Orange’s honorees included senior Christina Gibson, junior Katie Rowan sophomores Christina Dove, Halley Quillinan and Lindsay Rogers and freshman Liz Hogan. Syracuse’s six first-team selections were the most for any school in any of the four regions and are the most in school history.
Gibson is Syracuse’s most experienced defender, starting 37-of-40 games during the past two seasons, and has posted career highs in caused turnovers (32), ground balls (29) and draw controls (9) this season. She leads the team with 32 caused turnovers and needs just two more to break the single-season school record. Gibson was a second-team All-BIG EAST selection and was named to the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team.
Rowan, who earns the honor for the third straight year, is the nation’s leading scorer with 142 points. She also ranks first in the country in points per game (7.10), assists (69) and assists per game (3.45). Rowan has set single-season school records for points and assists this season on her way to becoming the Orange’s all-time leader in points (284), goals (178) and assists (106). A unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection, Rowan earned the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year award and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the BIG EAST Championship after setting a tournament record with 13 points in two games. Rowan is a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award and the Women’s Lacrosse Honda Sports Award.
Dove, an all-region second-team honoree a year ago, leads the team with 74 goals, the highest single-season total in school history, and ranks second in points with 94. She’s also posted career highs with 22 assists and 23 ground balls. Dove was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and earned a spot on the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team. She ranks third in the nation in points and eighth in points per game (4.8). In addition, she ranks seventh in goals per game (3.74).
Quillinan has posted career highs in every statistical category this season, including goals (62), assists (12), points (74), ground balls (28), draw controls (49) and caused turnovers (27). Quillinan, who also earned first-team honors last season, was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and ranks 18th in the nation in goals per game (3.74). Quillinan leads the team in draw controls and ranks second in caused turnovers.
Rogers became the first member of the Orange to earn the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year award and was selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Rogers and the Syracuse defense has limited it opponents to just 7.86 goals per game this season. She has recorded career highs with 25 ground balls, 33 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers in 20 games in the 2008 campaign.
Hogan earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors after leading the league with a 7.75 goals against average. She also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team after recording 18 saves in two games. Hogan has reached double figures in saves in seven games this season, including SU’s first-round NCAA Championship game against Towson. Her 11 saves against the Tigers were the most for any goalkeeper in the first round of this year’s tournament
