Rowan Named to Academic All-America Second Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Katie Rowan was selected to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Women’s At-Large Academic All-America Second Team on Thursday, June 12. Rowan is the second women’s lacrosse player in the 11-year history of the program to be named to the national Academic All-America team.
Rowan produced the most prolific scoring campaign in school history. She set a single-season school record with 142 points, becoming the first Orange player to record 100 points in a season. Rowan scored 73 goals and dished out 69 assists, which tied the NCAA single-season record. She led the nation in scoring, points per game (6.76) and assists and ranked second in assists per game (3.29). This season Rowan became Syracuse’s career leader in points (284), goal (178) and assists (106).
For the second consecutive season, Rowan earned All-America First Team honors, making her the first player in school history to earn the honor twice. She earned the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year and the BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player award. Rowan was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team and earned All-Northeast Region First Team honors. She was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award and the Honda Sports Award. Both awards are presented to the top lacrosse player in the nation.
