Syracuse Field Hockey Garners Preseason Attention

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University field hockey is ranked 18th in the STX/NFHCA Preseason Poll announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. No stranger to national recognition, the reigning BIG EAST Coach of the Year Ange Bradley, guided the Orange to the 18th-spot in the rankings last season, its highest since 2004.
Syracuse ended the 2007 season with a 12-7 record after losing to Connecticut in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship. The Orange will welcome back sophomore Maggie Befort, who was named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team. Syracuse was recently picked to place second in the BIG EAST preseason poll and received one first-place vote.
SU’s 2008 schedule is chock-full of national powerhouses, including No. 2 Maryland, No. 4 Connecticut, No. 8 Old Dominion, No. 10 Michigan State, No. 13 Boston College, No. 15 American, No. 17 Louisville and No. 19 Albany. Delaware, Massachusetts, Providence and Villanova are also receiving votes.
