Volleyball Travels to Cornell for Midweek Matchup

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University volleyball team travels to Ithaca, N.Y. on Wednesday to take on the Big Red of Cornell. This is Syracuse’s last match before it begins BIG EAST play on Sunday, September 28 at Rutgers.
Scouting the Big Red (September 24, 6:30 p.m.)
Cornell, who is 1-5 this season, opened the 2008 fall season at the Kansas State Tournament facing Liberty, Kansas State and Northern Iowa.
This past weekend, the Big Red played in the UConn Toyota Classic where it searched for its first win of the season. After suffering losses to both Connecticut and Temple, the Big Red grabbed a 3-2 win against Maine. The team’s defense was credited for the win after it recorded 15 total blocks.
Leading the team in stats this season are junior Juliana Rogers and freshman Kelly Hansen. Rogers has registered 56 kills and Hansen has posted 21 total blocks.
Following the match against Syracuse, the Big Red will host the Cornell Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 27. Cornell will face Robert Morris and host Columbia in its Ivy League home opener.

Following the midweek matchup, the Orange will spend the rest of the week preparing for its trip to Rutgers for its first BIG EAST match of the season. The Orange host UConn on October 3 at 7 p.m. in Manley Field House for its BIG EAST home opener.
