Orange Makes Its Way to Marquette on Tuesday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. –The Syracuse women's basketball team (13-6, 2-4) looks to return to its winning ways on Tuesday when SU travels Milwaukee, Wis. for a BIG EAST battle with Marquette (12-7, 3-2) scheduled to tip at 8 p.m. ET.
The Syracuse-Marquette matchup can be heard live on SUAthletics.com via Orange All Access, WTLA AM 1200 and WJPZ FM 89. Live stats will also be available on gomarquette.cstv.com. Fans in the Milwaukee area can also watch the game on Time Warner Sports 32.
A Glance at the Golden Eagles
Marquette has gone back-and-forth since entering BIG EAST play, alternating wins and losses for a 3-2 conference record. The Golden Eagles are flying high after an 80-65 road victory at Georgetown on January 21. Marquette also surprised #10/4 Notre Dame at home by a final count of 75-65 on January 13. MU opened up league-play with a 68-60 triumph against USF on January 3. Marquette's two losses came at #23/23 Rutgers (76-53) and at Seton Hall (65-55). In its non-conference portion of the schedule, Marquette compiled a 9-5 record.
Sophomore guard Angle Robinson is Marquette's frontrunner with 14.4 points and 3.8 assists per game. Robinson is 23-of-61 (37.7 percent) from downtown and third on the team with 5.0 rebounds per outing. Freshman center Georgie Jones directs the Golden Eagles' rebounding efforts with 5.4 per game and has totaled a team-best 17 blocks. Jones leads the team with a clip of 62.8 percent from the floor (27 -43). Senior guard Krystal Ellis has posted a team-high 2.0 per game.
Marquette holds a slight edge in this fairly young series, 4-3. The Orange took out Marquette at the Carrier Dome, 70-67, last season and has compiled a 3-1 record against the Golden Eagles at home. Syracuse has never won in its three trips to Milwaukee.
Last Time versus Marquette
Erica Morrow put up a then career-best of 24 points against Marquette in a 70-67 victory in front of a Carrier Dome crowd of 3,552 – the third largest in SU history. Syracuse made 6-of-8 free throws during the final 3:33 to solidify its third victory against the Golden Eagles.
Marquette trailed by as many as 12 in the second half before using a 14-2 run between 11:32 and 7:12 to grab its first lead since the 4:33 of the first. SU rallied for a 7-0 run, which was capped by a 3-pointer by Morrow at 5:43 to put the Orange ahead, 64-58.
Fantasia Goodwin knocked down a free throw at 3:33 of the second half to knot the score for the fourth time of the game. After the Orange built at 70-67 advantage, Marquette went for two points with time running out, but a Goodwin stuffed MU's final attempt with three ticks remaining to help secure the win.
Nifty at 50
Senior guard Chandrea Jones and sophomore guard Erica Morrow each started in their 50th consecutive game for the Orange on Saturday against Pitt. Jones led the team in scoring for the second consecutive game with 23 points behind career-highs in field goals attempted (22) and 3-point field goals attempted (9) while Morrow played a game-high 39 minutes and scored 16 points. Morrow has hit the 15-point benchmark in 15-of-19 games this season.
Both players have been named to this year's BIG EAST Honor Roll twice.
Morrow was honored by the BIG EAST for her performance at St. Bonaventure. Against the Bonnies, she scored a game-high 23 points and made a career-best 13 trips to the line, converting a season-high nine free throws. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native was pegged on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second consecutive week after averaging 25.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists against Princeton and at Georgetown.
Jones was granted the honor in the first week of the season for her performances in the first four games. In the season opener at Siena, she topped her career high by draining a game-high 33 points. At UMES, she posted her ninth-career double-double with 10 defensive boards to along with 16 points and two swipes. At Ohio State, she posted a career-high five steals and sunk a game-best five free throws to accompany her 14 points and four offensive boards and against Portland State, had 24 points and 13 rebounds.
Jones Gets the Nod Again
Jones was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the third time this season for her double-double (23 points, 10 rebounds) against Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon. The senior was also named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Nov. 24 and Dec. 1. Jones' award marks the sixth time an SU student-athlete has been appointed to the weekly conference honor roll.
The senior guard has scored in double-digits in 16 of the 19 contests she has played in. Jones leads the club in rebounding with 8.3 per outings and also gotten to the free throw line and made the most attempts (89-123) for Syracuse this season.
