
Orange Extends Home Undefeated Streak

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange extended its home unbeaten streak to five games, defeating Rutgers, 3-0, on Friday night at Manley Field House. Syracuse improved to 12-5 on the season and 2-1 in the BIG EAST with the win while Rutgers moved to 7-9, 1-2.
Seniors Sarah Morton and Annabelle Pellerin set the tone for a well-balanced Syracuse offense that had seven different players post kills. Morton and Pellerin had eight kills apiece while outside hitters Kacie MacTavish and Noemie Lefebvre each added five. Junior middle blocker Hayley Todd had four kills while freshman Laura Homann and sophomore Erin Little each added a pair. Homann fueled the attack with 28 assists.
Defensively, Morton maintained her billing as the national leader in total blocks, posting five rejections, including four solo, increasing her season total to 98. Todd joined in the action, posting two total blocks while Lefebvre led the back row with a match-high 13 digs.
Syracuse used its all-around effort to dominate Rutgers in the first set. Tied at three, the Orange put together an 11-5 run to gain a 14-8 advantage en route to a 25-12 victory.
The Orange put the second set away in similar fashion, breaking an 8-8 tie with another 11-5 run to go up 19-13 before closing out the game, 25-16.
The Scarlet Knights came on strong in the third set, as the two teams traded points to a 7-7 tie before the Orange inched past Rutgers 8-7 and carried its momentum into completing the sweep, 3-0 with a 25-17 third-set victory.
Syracuse returns to the court on Sunday, October 4, hosting Seton Hall in a 2 p.m. matchup at Manley Field House.
