SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Kirsten Thomas (Sandwich, Mass.) and junior Kuba Kotynia (Lodz, Poland) have been named the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of November 9, 2009.
Thomas is a senior diver on the Syracuse swim team. She last earned 201.45 points on the 3-meter against Cornell, which is 34 points shy of BIG EAST qualification after competing in only two meets. She had her best showing of the season in the 1-meter competition against Cornell, when she finished with 182 points.
Thomas is a double major in biology and public relations. She will compete at the Bucknell Open in Lewisburg, Pa. on Friday, Dec. 4.
Kotynia is a junior swimmer on the Syracuse swim team. He finished the Syracuse Invite with four goal medal finishes, including the 200 yard IM (1:56.16), 400 IM (4:12.20), 100 yard breaststroke (58.13) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:07.35). He was also a member of the 400 yard freestyle relay that placed third (3:18.94).
Kotynia is a computer science major in the School of Information Studies and will join Thomas at the Bucknell Open.
