SU Ends Pitt's Undefeated BIG EAST Run

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Orange (12-5, 6-2) willed its road record above the .500 mark (5-4) after ending Pittsburgh's five-game undefeated streak in the BIG EAST on Sunday afternoon at The Club. Despite losing the doubles point for just the third time this season, Syracuse swept all six singles matches for the sixth time this year.
The junior pairing of Ashley Spicer and Chelsea Jones secured their fourth consecutive win at the No. 2 doubles post with an 8-1 victory against Adela Aprodu and Minh Evans and is now 13-4 on the season.
The No. 1 blend of freshman Emily Harman and sophomore Christina Tan had its six-match winning streak put to rest after losing to Kristy Borza and Elizabeth Adams, 8-6. Freshman Alessondra Parra and sophomore Simone Kalhorn were handed their sixth setback of the season, 8-2, against Christie D'Achille and Shannon Benic.
Syracuse responded immediately as Harman went the distance with Borza, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, for the first Orange point of the day at the No. 1 match.
Tan notched her fourth consecutive victory playing as No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Adams. Kalhorn stamped out Pitt's No. 3 Evans with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph while Parra locked down her ninth win of the year, 7-6 (2), 6-2 at the No. 4 slot.
Spicer got by Aprodu, 7-5, 6-2 for her 11th solo win of the year while Jones extended her team-leading unblemished streak to five with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Benic at the No. 6 match.
Sophomore Jacquelynn Tang followed in her teammate's footsteps as she challenged Melissa Bostwick to an 8-1 victory in the exhibition affair.
Syracuse prepares for its final action of the regular season as head coach Luke Jensen takes his squad to Georgetown (Fri., Apr. 3), Seton Hall (Sat., Apr. 4) and St. John's (Sun., Apr. 5). The matches are scheduled to go off at 3:00 p.m., noon and 10:00 a.m., respectively, next weekend.
Following the three-match finale, the Orange will revisit Tampa, Fla. for the BIG EAST Tournament starting on April 16.
