
Syracuse Scholar-Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Josh Knight (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) is the Syracuse University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 6, 2009.
Knight had a career day against No. 5 Princeton on Saturday, April 4. In SU's 12-8 setback to the Tigers at the Inaugural Big City Classic at Giants Stadium, Knight was 13-of-18 (.722) in the faceoff circle. He also scooped up four groundballs before the game was completed.
The midfielder is second on the team this season at the faceoff x. He has won 29 of his 55 attempts (.527).
Knight, a health and wellness major in the College of Human Ecology, and the rest of the men's lacrosse team is back in action on Tuesday, April 7. The Orange hosts Cornell at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
Senior Katie Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) is the Syracuse University Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 6, 2009.
Rowan helped guide the No. 8 women's lacrosse team to a 17-10 victory at Loyola over the weekend. She dished out six assists and contributed two goals on her way to tallying a team-high eight points. She now has a137 career assists to rank fifth on the NCAA Division I all-time leader list.
So far this season, the team captain has started all 12 games for head coach Gary Gait. She is first on the team in assists with 31 and third on the team in goals with 34.
Rowan, a dual major in inclusive education and sociology in the College of Education, and the rest of the women's lacrosse team will be back in action on April 11. The Orange hosts Notre Dame at noon in the Dome.
