
SU No. 2 Seed In NCAA Championship

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men's lacrosse team will face Siena in the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. The game will be televised live on ESPNU. Syracuse is making its 29th appearance in the NCAA playoffs and was rewarded for a 12-2 regular season with the No. 2 seed in this year's 16-team field.
Tickets for SU's first-round playoff tilt will go on sale Monday, May 4, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Carrier Dome Box Office and online at SUathletics.com. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for Syracuse and Siena students (with valid ID) and youth 12 and under. Season parking permits will be honored. Otherwise, parking will be $10 the day of the game. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the Orange and the Saints.
Siena is the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's (MAAC) champion and received the league's automatic bid into the field. The Saints are 12-5 overall and defeated Providence and Manhattan to win the conference tournament.
This is the sixth time Syracuse has been seeded second in the postseason. The Orange owns an 11-3 record all-time when serving as the No. 2 seed, including winning the 1983 and 2002 national championships. The last time Syracuse was the second seed was in 2002 when the Orange defeated Princeton 13-12 to win the NCAA title.
The winner of the Syracuse-Siena game will meet the winner of Notre Dame-Maryland in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 16 at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. The Fighting Irish earned the seventh seed in this year's tournament after winning the Great Western Lacrosse League title. They are 15-0. The Terrapins received an at-large berth. They are 9-6.
Syracuse is 57-18 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Its .760 tournament winning percentage is the best in NCAA history and its 57 tournament victories is second all-time behind Johns Hopkins (64). The Orange has 28 previous NCAA invitations to its credit, including 24 straight from 1983-2006. SU advanced to the national semifinals 22 consecutive years from 1983-2004 and has 15 title-game appearances and 10 NCAA Championships (1983, 1988-90, 1993, 1995, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2008).
Head coach John Desko has directed the Orange to four NCAA titles (2000, 2002, 2004, 2008). His Orange squads are 23-5 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and Desko owns the highest tournament winning percentage (.821) in NCAA history.
